This means that normally only one animal lives in it. Except after mating, the male is allowed to move in. The male animal then lives with him in the hutch until the young are born, but then has to move out again. The mother animal takes care of the little squirrels for about 3 months. After that, she also leaves the Kobel and leaves the young alone. The female builds a new nest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-so-baust-du-einen-eichh%C3%B6rnchenkobel\">How to build a squirrel hutch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many different instructions on how to build a squirrel hutch. In any case, there are some things you need to consider when building it, so that the animal feels comfortable in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The hutch must have at least 2 entrances\/exits. One of the two entrances should be at the bottom, because the animals always enter their nest from below. The second entrance should be further up. This way the squirrel can escape in case of danger, for example if an enemy animal is sitting in front of the lower entrance. The entrance should have a diameter of about 7 cm.<\/li><li>The gable should have a base of at least 26 x 26 cm and a height of 30 cm.<\/li><li>If you use wood, it should be unpainted, untreated and rough sawn.<\/li><li>The roof should protrude a few centimeters above the entrance, so that it can not rain inside. Squirrels prefer a dry nest.<\/li><li>The hutch should be cozy. This means you need to line it with natural materials, wood wool or fleece fabric. The material should not get soaked and also not pull threads.<\/li><li>The hutch should be built so that you can clean it in between. When building, make sure that you can open the roof or remove a side wall. The optimal time for cleaning is between October and January, because then no young animals are in the nest. Therefore, you should choose wood that has a long life. As a rule, this is beech, maple and pine.
